From Natalie
My husband and I have recently relocated to Jaipur from
the UK. The one thing I thought I would never be able to
continue doing was horse riding. As far as I knew, there
simply would not be any opportunity to do so.
Thankfully,
whilst searching the internet I found the website for Silver
Spurs Equestrian centre. Following initial emails, we visited
Col Sandeep and his wife Tara Dewan. We were made to feel
extremely welcome and at home. The establishment is a real
Oasis. Lush green gardens surrounded by mature planting
greet you either side of the main driveway with the house
sitting back to one side with the stables to the other.
Such a marvelous change from the city.
During
our first visits we were treated to a warm welcome not only
from Sandeep and Tara but also by the various dogs, chickens
and a turkey! The overwhelming feeling is of peace and tranquility.
The horses are stabled in large, airy loose boxes, each
with a fan and sun shade. The first thing I noticed about
the horses was how relaxed they were. All are clearly kept
in the highest of standards and were very interested in
the new visitors.
It
was decided that leasing a horse would be the best option
for me. This has proved to be an excellent opportunity.
The horses are superbly schooled and are both challenging
and rewarding since I can be very sure that if my aids are
not quite correct, I will not get the result I am looking
for. Sandeep is always on hand with suggestions and encouragement
and can put you on the right track at exactly the right
moment. Equally he is very good at explaining how an aid
should be applied and when it is most effective.
Although
I have ridden for many years in the UK, I was never quite
'there' when it came to riding forward. I could never quite
have the horse off of my leg and truly into the hand. Two
months with Sandeep and I can definitely say I have had
many eureka moments when it all comes together. Of course
this is very much work in progress and every day there is
something new to learn.
I
am looking forward to the next two years now and would wholeheartedly
recommend Silver Spurs to anyone interested in riding or
even just getting away from the hustle and bustle.

From Zihan
A visit to the Silver Spurs Equestrian Stables was
the acme of my visit to Jaipur. As far as I’m concerned,
it’s the best place to take riding lessons. Col. Dewan
has an eye for good horses and with him watching, you are
sure never to go wrong while schooling a horse. While dealing
with problem horses, Silver Spurs is the answer to all my
problems.

From Colonel Jaquerod former Commandant of the Swiss Army
Cavalry School
Last
February I had the good fortune to visit the riding-centre
of Sandeep and Tara which was under construction. I saw
that big park as an oasis of wilderness, I saw the natural
jumping- and training-ground, the stables with the exceedingly
wonderful large boxes in which the various horses obviously
felt very happy and I saw the foundation-walls of the dwelling-house
in which the guest-rooms will occupy a privileged area.
But what I also observed, were the shiny eyes and the enthusiasm
of Sandeep and Tara as they described the final lay-out
of the project. Details as were for example: here some flowers,
there another hedge, some more stables here, rooms for the
staff there, and last but not least common room for the
family and guests etc., etc., etc. I have seen, almost in
the middle of the town, a garden which is about to become
a real paradise. I am feeling very happy for my friends
wishing them already now the success they deserve for their
enthusiasm and may God allow me to live this dream with
them.
